Shopping on Amazon just got easier with a new payment option called PayCode, a collaboration between Amazon and Western Union that allows local shoppers to pay in cash via any Western Union outlet. The service is currently being offered in 10 countries: Chile, Columbia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Peru, the Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand.
Amazon PayCode allows shoppers to pay in their respective local currencies, removing one of the few remaining barriers to cross-border commerce. Previously, shoppers from developing countries are required to pay for their Amazon purchases using credit or debit cards. With PayCode, Amazon customers can simply go to the nearest Western Union agent location and pay for their purchases in cash.
“Amazon is committed to enabling customers anywhere in the world to shop on Amazon.com, and a big part of that is to allow customers to pay for their cross-border online purchases in a way that is most convenient for them,” said Ben Volk, Director of Payment Acceptance and Experience at Amazon. “Amazon PayCode leverages the reach of Western Union to make cross-border online shopping a reliable and convenient experience for customers who do not have access to international credit cards, or prefer to pay in cash.”
Cross-border shopping will represent 20% of e-commerce or about $630 billion by 2022, according to estimates by Forrester Research. For Amazon, it’s an opportunity to extend its reach to millions of online shoppers in emerging economies in Asia and Africa. Amazon currently runs 15 global versions of its website, serving customers in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Spain and Turkey.
How to Pay on Amazon Using Western Union
Paying for your Amazon purchases using Western Union is fairly easy. Simply shop on Amazon.com and add your items to your cart (make sure that it says “Eligible for Shipping to Philippines”). Choose your delivery option, either AmazonGlobal Expedited Shipping or AmazonGlobal Priority Shipping.
On the payment page, choose “Pay with Cash using Amazon PayCode.”
After placing your order, you will receive a PayCode. Bring your PayCode and your government-issued ID to a Western Union agent location within 48 hours. Your order will only be shipped after payment.
Amazon PayCode is a really convenient way to pay for your Amazon.com orders since you don’t need a bank account or credit card to start shopping. All you need is your PayCode and a valid ID. If you don’t have a valid ID, you can apply for a postal ID.
