Facebook and Instagram users in the Philippines and around the world have reported they are having problems accessing the social media platforms. The massive outage reportedly started around 9:15 p.m. Philippine time.
Facebook Messenger is also affected, with users saying that they were unable to send messages or see which of their friends are online.
A Facebook spokesperson confirmed the outage on the Facebook for Developer site, writing: “We are currently experiencing issues that may cause some API requests to take longer or fail unexpectedly. We are investigating the issue and working on a resolution.”
#FacebookDown and #InstagramDown have become trending topics on Twitter as users began reporting on the global outage.
Users who experienced the outage encountered the following message as they tried to access the site: “Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on it and we’ll get it fixed as soon as we can.”
DownDetector.com, a website that offers realtime information on outages for all kinds of Internet services, reports that most of the affected users were in the United States and Europe. Parts of Asia and South America were also affected.
As of this writing, Facebook and Instagram are still inaccessible to some users.
