The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has opened a ₱4.4-billion emergency loan facility for more than 166,000 active members and pensioners in nine cyclone-affected areas of Luzon, with application deadlines running from September through November depending on location.
In a news release issued Wednesday, GSIS said the facility covers active members and old-age and disability pensioners affected by recent tropical cyclones and the southwest monsoon.
“The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has earmarked nearly ₱4.4 billion in emergency loans for 166,789 active members and old-age and disability pensioners in nine areas in Luzon affected by recent [cyclones] and the southwest monsoon,” the agency said.
The application windows vary by location. Cavite and Rodriguez, Rizal, have the longest periods, with a combined 94,750 eligible members and pensioners able to apply until Nov. 12 and Nov. 16, respectively. In Pampanga, Calumpit in Bulacan, and Mangaldan and Dagupan City in Pangasinan, 65,737 qualified borrowers have until Sept. 13 to file their applications.
A further 1,964 members and pensioners in Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan, may apply until Sept. 18. Applications from Hagonoy, Bulacan, and Masinloc, Zambales, remain open until Sept. 20.
Under the program, qualified borrowers with no existing emergency loan may borrow up to ₱20,000, while those still paying off a previous emergency loan may borrow up to ₱40,000, subject to GSIS policies. The loan is payable in 36 equal monthly installments at an annual interest rate of 6 percent and comes with loan redemption insurance.
Applications must be filed through the GSIS Touch mobile application. Once approved, loan proceeds will be credited directly to the borrower’s GSIS eCard or UMID card.
Members in the affected localities who have not yet applied are advised to check their eligibility and submit their applications within the deadlines specified for their area.
