We’ve helped millions of Filipinos apply for their NBI clearances and we’re here with another guide, this time on how to renew your NBI clearance. Renewing your NBI clearance is easy, straightforward and convenient, thanks to Internet technology. So continue reading because we’ll teach you the NBI clearance renewal process from start to finish, with helpful screenshots to make it easy for you to follow along.
Why do you need to renew your NBI clearance? Because NBI clearances are valid for only one year from the date of issuance, you might need to renew it from time to time. An NBI clearance has many uses, such as applying for jobs and presenting it as a valid ID when transacting with the government. By renewing your NBI clearance – instead of applying for a new one – you will save precious time and effort in filling out the online application form.
Since your personal data is already in the NBI database, the system will simply fetch your information and append it to your newly registered account. This means that you don’t have to enter your personal information one by one, unlike in new applications.
And when the time comes that you will need a new NBI clearance, you simply log in to your account and apply for renewal. You don’t need to create a new account for each new NBI clearance.
It would be nice if the NBI clearance renewal process is as simple as clicking a few buttons and receiving your NBI clearance by mail, without going to the NBI office for an appointment. After all, your personal data and biometrics are already in the NBI database, so there’s no apparent need to go back to the NBI again to provide the same information.
The NBI website actually has a “Quick Renewal” option where you can renew your clearance and it will be delivered to your doorstep. Unfortunately, the quick renewal option is unavailable at the moment. We will include the NBI clearance quick renewal process in this guide as soon as it becomes available again.
So if you want to renew your NBI clearance, follow our NBI clearance renewal online step-by-step process. Keep in mind that only NBI clearances issued from 2014 until the present are eligible for online renewal. If your NBI clearance was issued before 2014, you will have to apply for a new one.
NBI Clearance Renewal Procedure
Step 1: Open the NBI clearance website at https://clearance.nbi.gov.ph.
Step 2: Under REGISTER, make sure that you ticked the YES checkbox that says, “DO YOU HAVE AN OLD NBI CLEARANCE ISSUED FROM 2014 TO PRESENT?”
Fill out the fields including your first name, surname, mobile number, birth date and your old NBI ID number. All fields are required.
Your NBI ID number is located on the upper-left portion of the NBI clearance. Refer to the picture below to locate the NBI ID number.
Click PROCEED to continue.
Step 3: If your NBI clearance is eligible for renewal, you will see a green message that says, “Data successfully retrieve.”
Now, enter your new email address, mobile number, and new password. Make sure that you remember or save your password as you will use it to access your account and apply for clearances in the future.
Check the box next to “Read and accept terms of service.” Click AGREE when prompted.
Solve the captcha code (“I’m not a robot”) and click SIGN UP.
Step 4: Enter the one-time password (OTP) sent to your provided mobile number. It will also be sent to your email. Click SUBMIT.
A message will tell you that your registration is successful.
Step 5: Log in to your account using your email address and password. The login form can be found at the top-right portion of the website.
You can now see your personal information which you furnished to the NBI when you applied for an NBI clearance. If you want to change something, you can do so by clicking EDIT INFORMATION.
Step 6: Click the APPLY FOR CLEARANCE button at the top-right portion of the page.
From the dropdown box, choose the type of ID that you will present during your appointment at the NBI. Click the I Agree button to proceed.
Step 7: In this step, you will choose the NBI branch where you will have your appointment, as well as the date of appointment.
Under “Select NBI Branch,” choose the NBI office where you will have your NBI clearance renewal. You can filter it by typing the town, city or province.
Choose your appointment schedule by clicking on an available slot. Available slots are colored blue while unavailable slots are red.
Step 8: Choose your desired payment option by clicking or tapping on it. Available payment options are:
- Bank over-the-counter
- Online banking
- Bayad Center outlets
- Bayad Center mobile app
- ECPay
- 7-Eleven
A payment reminder pop-up will appear. Click Proceed to continue.
Step 9: Your transaction summary will be shown. Click the Proceed to Payment button to continue.
Step 10: In this example, I wanted to pay through online banking. I chose BDO Internet Banking and clicked “Select.”
If you chose another payment option such as Bayad Center, you will be provided with a reference number and instructions on how to pay. Take note of the deadline for payment. Online banking transactions have a one-hour deadline, while offline transactions (over-the-counter, Bayad Center, ECPay and 7-Eleven) have a longer deadline of 1 day or more.
Since I chose online banking, I had to log in to my BDO online banking account and followed the provided instructions. Important: If you prefer to pay through online banking, you will need to validate your payment by clicking on a link in the payment instructions page.
You can also check your email for the payment instructions. Refer to the payment instructions when you make the payment. Make sure that the reference number, account name, account number, and amount are correct. Only pay the exact amount of ₱155; otherwise, your payment might be forfeited.
You will receive an email confirming your successful payment. It will take a little longer for offline payments to be confirmed compared to online banking payments.
Step 11: Check the status of your payment by clicking the Transactions link on the upper-left menu.
Click the DETAILS button to view your reference number. List down this reference number and show it to the officer-in-charge during your appointment at the NBI.
You can also print the application form by clicking the Print Application Form button. Take note that you are not required to bring your printed application form during your appointment; the reference number is enough.
Step 12: Go to your chosen NBI branch during the scheduled date of appointment. Bring your reference number (or printed application form) and your valid ID. Wear proper, decent attire.
If there are no complications, you will receive your new NBI clearance almost immediately. Otherwise, you will be told to return at a future date to claim your NBI clearance.
