Facebook and Messenger went down on Friday night, June 12, 2026, affecting millions of users in the Philippines and around the world. The outage hit around 9:30-9:40 PM Philippine Time, cutting access to feeds, messages, and login functions across Meta’s platforms.
Filipino users were among the first to feel it. Many found themselves suddenly logged out of Messenger or unable to get back in, while others got error messages reading, “This Page Isn’t Available Right Now. This may be because of a technical error that we’re working to get fixed.” Facebook feeds stopped loading, and posts and messages wouldn’t go through. Filipino users flooded Reddit’s r/Tech_Philippines and X (formerly Twitter) to confirm the outage was real and not just on their end.
Instagram also went down briefly during the same window, though it recovered faster than Facebook and Messenger. Threads stayed up throughout but ran slower than usual, giving some users a temporary fallback. Reports from users on X noted the disruption stretched well beyond the Philippines, with accounts across Asia and other regions reporting the same problems.
Meta acknowledged the Messenger outage directly, saying: “We are currently experiencing high disruptions impacting Messenger Platform. Our engineering teams are investigating the issue. We will provide another update if additional information is available.” The company did not disclose the cause. Facebook services in the Philippines came back first, with Messenger following shortly after. By around 10:22 PM, Messenger was confirmed working again on both PC and smartphones, putting the total downtime at roughly 30 to 45 minutes.
As of the time of reporting, Meta had not issued a public explanation for what triggered the outage.
