How to Lock Your Facebook Profile in the Philippines

Concerned about privacy? Lock your Facebook profile so only friends can view it

Facebook offers an effective way to protect your personal information from prying eyes with a new feature called “Facebook Profile Lock.” With this feature, you can lock your Facebook profile or account and only allow your friends to have access to your posts, photos, stories and personal information.

Social media sites like Facebook have undoubtedly changed the way we communicate with friends, loved ones and even complete strangers from all over the world. Unfortunately, social media also have its downsides such as the relative lack of privacy and anonymity. It’s often all too easy to access someone’s personal information by looking up their social media profiles.

To address these privacy and security concerns, Facebook recently introduced the “Facebook Profile Lock” feature that allows you to limit access to your personal data and information. It’s an easy and convenient way to lock your Facebook account without changing your privacy settings individually for posts and photos.

By locking your Facebook account, strangers and stalkers won’t be able to view your posts, photos, stories and personal information. They can only view your profile picture, cover photo and up to 5 profile details.

At the moment, however, the feature to lock your Facebook profile is not yet available in the Philippines and several other countries. Fortunately, there’s a loophole that allows you to activate this feature even if it’s not yet available for you. After locking your profile for the first time, you can subsequently lock and unlock your profile as often as you want.

Step-by-Step Process to Lock Your Facebook Profile

In order to lock your Facebook profile (if the option is not yet available for you), you must use the Facebook Lite app. Download the Facebook Lite app from Google Play or the App Store.

After logging in to your account on Facebook Lite, tap the Menu icon on the upper-right portion. On the Facebook menu, click Settings.

Facebook settings

Under Account Settings, select Translation for Posts.

You can now see a list of languages. Scroll down to the bottom and select the 7th to the last language (Burmese). Refer to the screenshot below for the correct language to choose.

Change language

You’ll notice that your app’s language has now changed. Don’t worry if you don’t understand anything because it’s still easy to lock your Facebook profile.

Go back to the Facebook menu and click your name or “View your profile.”

Lock your Facebook profile

Once you’ve viewed your profile, tap the icon on the right with three dots as shown on the screenshot below.

You’ll be presented with several options in Burmese language. Don’t worry if you don’t understand anything. Just select the second to the last option (the one with the shield icon).

How to lock your Facebook profile

You now have the option to lock your Facebook account. Locking your profile gives you the following security benefits:

  • Only friends will see the photos, posts and stories on your profile.
  • Only friends will see your full-size profile picture and cover photo.
  • People you’re not friends with will see a maximum of 5 profile details.

Lock your Facebook profile by clicking the blue button (it translates to “Lock Your Profile” in English).

Lock your profile in Facebook

Congratulations! Your Facebook profile is now locked. You can confirm that your Facebook profile has been locked by viewing your profile using a different non-friend account.

To unlock your profile, tap the icon with three dots and select Unlock Profile. Tap Unlock and then Unlock Your Profile.

Facebook profile locked

You can lock and unlock your Facebook account as many times as you want. After this initial step in locking your profile, you no longer need to use the Facebook Lite app or change the translation language in order to lock your profile. You can simply use the regular Facebook app to lock or unlock your account.

That’s pretty much it. Remember, you can lock and unlock your Facebook profile as often as you want. If you’re really concerned about your privacy on Facebook, you can lock your account indefinitely and only unlock it temporarily when the need arises.

If you have any questions about locking your Facebook profile, don’t hesitate to comment below.

Can I uninstall Facebook lite app once the profile account is locked? I’ve noticed that my account in Facebook lite app is still in Burmese language. Do I need to change the language or just keep it as it is in the Facebook lite?

Yes, you may uninstall Facebook Lite after locking your profile. No need to change the language back to English unless you will still be using the Facebook Lite app.

Works!!! “Facebook Lite” app is no longer available in our region, but you can use FB in your mobile browser. Works the same way after following the instructions.
