PLDT Home is waiving installation fees and doubling Internet connection speeds for new subscribers – a direct response to the growing number of Filipinos ditching the daily commute as fuel prices continue to climb.
The timing makes sense. Oil prices have been rising since the conflict in the Middle East broke out last February 28, pushing more employers and workers to revisit work-from-home arrangements. The move comes as both government and private firms are pushing for flexible work setups to ease commuting costs. For Filipinos already dealing with inflation, cutting an upfront expense is a real relief – not just a promo gimmick.
“Filipinos are among the most resilient people in the world, and we want to make it easier for them to navigate today’s challenges, especially amid ongoing global uncertainties,” Menardo “Butch” Jimenez Jr., chief operating officer and chief technology officer of PLDT, said. “This is why we continue to enhance our fiber products and services to better support the daily digital needs of the Filipino workforce.”
New subscribers on Fiber Plan 1299 and above will get a free speed boost of up to 2x faster for six months, providing households with enough bandwidth for HD video calls and heavy cloud-based work. PLDT is also waiving the ₱3,600 installation fee entirely.
Those switching from another provider will receive a free “Always On” modem for six months – a hybrid fiber-LTE device that automatically falls back to a wireless LTE connection during fiber outages. That last part is actually useful for freelancers and remote workers who can’t afford downtime during client calls.
Beyond the connectivity upgrades, PLDT is bundling free unlimited Cignal entertainment, a one-year IGV Game Pass, and exclusive discounts on Samsung home products. For prepaid users, PLDT has expanded its fiber offerings to include 100 Mbps and 300 Mbps options, with flexible load packages from one day to one year – some plans going as low as about ₱19 per day on long-term subscriptions.
My read on this: the 2x speed boost is the asterisk you need to keep in mind. It’s a six-month perk, not a permanent upgrade – after that, you drop back to your plan’s base speed. The real win here is the waived installation fee, which has historically been one of the biggest friction points for people sitting on the fence about switching to fiber. Removing that barrier, especially right now, is a smart move. Whether Globe or DITO responds with a counter-offer will be worth watching in the coming weeks.
PLDT hasn’t announced an end date for the promo, so if you’ve been putting off a fiber upgrade, now is a good time to act before the offer ends.
