PLDT is planning to offer solar panel installation alongside broadband Internet under a single monthly subscription, in what the company is calling a first-of-its-kind service in the Philippines.
The telco said it is working on a partnership with a local solar energy provider to combine fiber broadband with a residential solar power system. Customers would pay for the solar infrastructure through monthly installments spread over several years, eliminating the heavy upfront cost that has kept solar power out of reach for many Filipino households.
PLDT claimed that initial test marketing activities have generated highly promising results, with strong consumer interest in an integrated digital and energy solution that offers both convenience and long-term savings.
PLDT COO Menardo Jimenez Jr. framed the bundle as a home future-proofing play.
“If people can have solar panels installed together with internet in one go, it should be very compelling for our customers, especially the ones who wish to future-proof their homes,” said Jimenez.
PLDT Home head John Palanca said the company aims to expand its ecosystem far beyond home broadband Internet with this initiative.
Why this matters for Filipino households
Residential solar in the Philippines has historically required a large capital outlay; panels, inverters, and installation can run ₱150,000 to ₱400,000 or more depending on system size – a barrier that puts it out of reach for most middle-income households. A subscription model that spreads those costs over several years, bundled with an existing broadband bill, addresses that problem directly.
Globe and Converge, PLDT’s main competitors in home broadband, have not announced comparable solar energy plans.
