From May 11 to 17, sixteen CS2 esports organizations competed for a $1,000,000 prize pool in Atlanta. For NAVI, Vitality, Astralis, FUT, and many other teams, IEM Atlanta 2026 served as the final stage of preparation before the major in Cologne. 1xBet esport takes a look at the tournament in Georgia’s capital, which evolved from just another race for VRS points into a testing ground for strategies and setups ahead of the biggest esports event of the season’s first half.
Favorites fall and two CS GOATs face off: Group stage results
All IEM Atlanta 2026 participants were divided into two groups of eight teams and competed for playoff spots in a double-elimination format. Winners of the upper brackets advanced directly to the semifinals, while the finalists and the best lower-bracket squads earned tickets to the quarterfinals.
Group A
The central matchup on opening day was Vitality vs BC.Game – the greatest player in CS2 history against the GOAT of the CS:GO era. Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev dreamed of making his comeback to the tier-1 scene, and a clash with Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut was the ultimate challenge for the Ukrainian AWPer, especially since BC.Game strengthened their roster ahead of the event by signing one of Asia’s best riflers, Azbayar “Senzu” Munkhbold.
After two hard-fought maps, Vitality secured the victory, while BC.Game dropped to the lower bracket, where they were crushed by B8 in their first Bo3 and eliminated from the tournament. Vitality added even more intrigue to the group stage by suffering a shocking defeat to BetBoom, who later beat paiN in the upper bracket final and advanced to the playoffs together with the Brazilian side.
The French squad quickly recovered. Wins over FaZe Clan and B8 secured Vitality a place in the quarterfinals. Another unexpected storyline in Group A was FUT’s early exit. The Turkish organization opened the tournament with a victory over NRG, but losses to paiN and B8 ended their run.
Group B
NAVI were considered the main favorites to win the upper bracket in Group B. Natus Vincere began their campaign with a victory over the revamped Passion UA roster and then defeated GamerLegion (2-1), despite suffering a crushing 13:1 loss on their signature map, Ancient. In the upper bracket final, however, NAVI looked far from their best and lost to Legacy (2-1). On their way to the semifinals, the Brazilian squad defeated M80 and Astralis.
The lower bracket also delivered its share of surprises. Astralis and Liquid appeared to be the leading contenders, but it was GamerLegion who secured the quarterfinal spot. The German organization reached the playoffs at their second consecutive tier-1 tournament and may become one of the biggest dark horses at the upcoming major.
Brazilian dream collapses and NAVI’s chance for revenge: Playoff results
The favorites stumbled in the group stage, forcing an early clash in the quarterfinals. Natus Vincere ended a nearly four-year winless streak against Vitality and advanced to the semifinals, while the latter lost in the playoffs for only the second time this season. For NAVI, it was a priceless revenge after painful defeats at the hands of the French side in the finals of BLAST Open Rotterdam 2026 and BLAST Rivals 2026 Season 1.
Fans even joked about the situation, claiming that Andrey “B1ad3” Gorodenskiy is such a mastermind strategist that he intentionally guided the team through the lower bracket just to face Vitality in a Bo3 instead of a Bo5. In the semifinals, NAVI confirmed their title ambitions by comfortably defeating one of the tournament’s biggest surprises, BetBoom, in a dominant 2-0 victory.
On the opposite side of the bracket, GamerLegion passed the Brazilian test twice, beating paiN and Legacy 2-1.
Grand final, third-place match, and the MVP race
Legacy finished the competition on a high note, defeating BetBoom in the bronze-medal match. Bruno “latto” Rebelatto landed shots as consistently as 1xBet casino players hit winning combinations. In the end, the Brazilian rifler closed out the Bo3 series with an incredible 2.11 rating.
The grand final featured a rematch of the group stage encounter, but this time, NAVI swept GamerLegion 3-0. The tension nearly returned on Nuke, but Natus Vincere recovered from five match points on the weaker side before proving their superiority in overtime and securing their second trophy of the season. It is also worth noting that NAVI won an IEM tournament in North America for the first time since 2015.
The MVP of IEM Atlanta 2026 was Ihor “w0nderful” Zhdanov. It is the first major individual award of the Ukrainian AWPer’s career. He finished the competition with a 1.31 rating and impressed fans with his consistency both with the rifle and the AWP.
