The Department of Transportation (DOTr) will offer free rides on the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 every Wednesday in August, in observance of the enactment of Republic Act 11055, the Philippine Identification System Act.
In an advisory released Friday, the DOTr said the free rides will run on Aug. 5, 12, 19, and 26, during the morning window of 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and the evening window of 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Commuters may avail of the promo by presenting a valid National ID at MRT-3 stations. Acceptable forms include the physical National ID card, the Digital ID, or a printed copy of the ePhilID.
For Metro Manila commuters who rely on the MRT-3’s Ayala, North Avenue, or Taft Avenue stations during rush hour, the promo effectively removes fare costs during two of the line’s busiest windows each Wednesday this August, provided they carry one of the accepted ID formats.
A separate free-ride day is scheduled for Sept. 16, 2026, in celebration of Global Identity Day.
The initiative is being carried out through a partnership between DOTr-MRT-3 and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). Beyond the fare promo, the PSA is also conducting on-site National ID registration at two MRT-3 stations: Araneta-Cubao and Taft Avenue, giving commuters who have not yet applied for a National ID an opportunity to register on their way through the system.
RA 11055 established the Philippine Identification System, the country’s single national identification system administered by the PSA. The law was enacted to consolidate the various government-issued identification cards into one system for Filipino citizens and resident aliens.
The DOTr and PSA have not announced whether the Wednesday free-ride promo will be extended beyond August or repeated in future months.
