Maybe you’re registering for an SSS online account and you’re wondering what your UMID card PIN code is. So what exactly is the UMID PIN code and where can you find it?

The Unified Multi-Purpose ID (UMID) is an identification card for members of the Social Security System (SSS) and other government agencies. The UMID card contains the member’s personal information such as name, address and date of birth, as well as the signature and front-facing photograph. The UMID card also comes with the cardholder’s Common Reference Number (CRN) which also serves as the ID number.

Some SSS members have asked about the UMID card PIN code and where they can locate it. The short answer is that the UMID PIN code is not found on the UMID card, but is personally chosen by the SSS member upon activating the card at an SSS Self-Service Express Terminal (SET).

The SSS Self-Service Express Terminal (or SSS Information Terminal) is an automated machine or kiosk that allows SSS members to inquire about their contributions and loan records, verify the status of their loans and benefits, inquire about their loan and benefit eligibility, and submit a maternity notification. Members can also browse the SSS website and send feedback using the terminal.

Members can activate their UMID card at an SSS Self-Service Express Terminal and nominate a 6-digit PIN code as a form of identity verification. The PIN code will be used every time you use the terminal to make inquiries and transactions. If you don’t want to set a PIN code, you can opt for fingerprint verification instead.

How to Get a UMID Card PIN Code

If you have not yet activated your UMID card and assigned a UMID PIN code, just follow these steps:

  1. Go to an SSS branch that has a SSS Self-Service Express Terminal (check out the list here).
  2. Tap the home screen to start.
  3. Select the “UMID Card” option.
  4. Place your UMID card on the smart card reader.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to activate your card and set a 6-digit PIN.

Not all SSS branches have a SSS Self-Service Express Terminal. You may call your SSS branch to inquire if they have the terminal before you go there.

UMID Card PIN Code for SSS Online Registration

If you want to use a UMID card PIN code for online registration purposes, you must first set the PIN at an SSS Self-Service Express Terminal.

However, even if you don’t have the PIN, you can still use your UMID card for this purpose. All you have to do is to enter your mother’s maiden name as reported in the UMID Card Application Form (Form E6).

If registration is still unsuccessful for some reason, you can try other registration preferences such as your mobile number, employer ID number, payment reference number (PRN) or even the date of your last loan. Check out this article to learn how to register and activate your SSS online account.

Conclusion

The UMID PIN code is just like the PIN that you use for bank ATM transactions. It’s your password to gain access to your records at an SSS Information Terminal. Most SSS members won’t need to set their UMID card PIN code especially if they already have a My.SSS account. But some members might have a need for it, particularly for SSS account registration, so I hope this short guide will help them.
