Getting verified in GCash is fairly simple. All you have to do is to submit a valid ID and take a selfie photo, and your GCash account will be verified in a matter of minutes. But what if you only have a student ID? Can you still verify your GCash account using your student ID?

If you’re a new GCash user, you should definitely take the time to upgrade your GCash account to fully verified. Being a fully verified GCash user gives you access to all the features of GCash and lifts restrictions on cash-ins, fund transfers and withdrawals. With a fully verified GCash account, you’ll enjoy a higher wallet limit of ₱100,000 as well as monthly incoming and daily outgoing limits of ₱100,000 each.

Being a fully verified GCash user has plenty of benefits, but upgrading your GCash account to fully verified is not easy if you are still a student. That is because the student ID is not included in the list of valid IDs accepted by GCash for account verification and upgrade. Some of you might only have a student ID and don’t have a UMID card, passport, voter’s ID or any other valid ID required by GCash.

The good news is that it’s possible to get verified in GCash using your student ID. You won’t have to go through the normal account verification process on the GCash app; instead, you will have to fill out a short online form and wait for GCash to manually verify and upgrade your account. This usually takes a few days up to several weeks. The other option is to visit the Villarica branch and undergo a verification procedure using your student ID.

So without further ado, let’s discuss the different ways to verify your GCash account using your student ID. Make sure that your school ID is up to date and has not expired yet, and that your name and date of birth match your student ID information. Otherwise, your student ID may be rejected and you will need to provide a different ID to repeat the verification process.

Option 1: Submit a Support Ticket

Since the student ID is not in the recommended list of valid IDs for GCash verification, you can’t use it for the verification process on the GCash app. What you can do instead is to submit a ticket to GCash support who will manually process your account verification and upgrade. Be sure to prepare a clear photo of your student ID to be included in your support ticket.

But before you proceed, please be reminded that there is no guarantee that your GCash account will be verified by submitting a support ticket. Some users have reported having success verifying their GCash accounts with this method, while others have claimed the opposite. Ultimately, the decision to verify your account is the sole discretion of GCash.

Follow this step-by-step guide to verify your GCash account using your student ID:

Step 1: Open the GCash submit a request page on your web or mobile browser.

Alternatively, you can submit a ticket by opening the GCash app, clicking Profile, and then selecting Help. Tap “Submit a Ticket” to access the support ticket form.

Step 2: Fill out the support ticket form with the following information:

  • Your email address – Enter the email address that you used to register to GCash.
  • GCash-registered full name
  • GCash-registered mobile number – Enter the mobile number associated with your GCash account.
  • Concern category – Choose “Account Verification” and then “My valid ID is not on the list.”
  • Explain your concern – You may write the following: “I would like to have my GCash account verified using my student ID. Thank you!”
  • ID submitted for verification – Select “Others.”
  • Others – Write “Student ID.”
  • Attachments – Upload a clear photo of your student ID.

Review the form to ensure that all information are correct, and then click “Submit.”

Step 3: Wait for the confirmation email from GCash. Don’t delete this email as it contains your ticket number which you can use in case you have to follow up your support request.

You can monitor the status of your ticket on the GCash app. Just tap the Profile icon and select Help to view your support tickets. To submit a follow-up, just select a ticket and write your follow-up request.

It will normally take 1-3 business days for GCash to reply to support requests. If three days have passed and you haven’t received a response yet, you may gently follow up by replying to the support ticket on the GCash app. You can also follow up by replying to the confirmation email.

As previously mentioned, there is no guarantee that your GCash account will be verified using your student ID. However, some users had success with this method so it definitely doesn’t hurt to try. After all, it only takes a few minutes to fill out a short online form and upload a photo of your ID.

Option 2: Go to a Villarica Pawnshop Branch

If you can’t successfully verify your GCash account by submitting a support ticket, then you can opt to visit the nearest Villarica Pawnshop branch instead. GCash recommends that those who wish to submit IDs other than the list of accepted IDs may go to any Villarica branch to fill out the verification form.

Follow these steps to verify your GCash account at Villarica:

  1. Go to the nearest Villarica branch.
  2. Tell the cashier that you want to verify your GCash account using your student ID.
  3. Fill out the GCash verification form and sign it.
  4. Give the verification form to the cashier along with your student or school ID.
  5. Have your photo and biometrics taken as part of the “Know Your Customer” (KYC) process.
  6. Claim your student ID and wait for the text message from GCash informing you of the status of your application (this might take a few days to several weeks).

Once again, there is no guarantee that your student ID will be accepted by GCash this way. But if there’s a Villarica branch nearby then it’s certainly worth a try.

Option 3: Register to GCash Jr

Another option to consider is GCash Jr, an e-wallet designed for youths and minors ages 7 to 17 years old. To sign up for this account, you will need the permission of your parent who is fully verified on GCash.

GCash Jr accounts have the same fees and transaction limits as regular GCash accounts. However, the following services are not available in GCash Jr:

  • GCash Card linking
  • GSave
  • GInvest
  • GInsure

To enjoy full access and to lift restrictions on cash-in and withdrawals, you can verify your GCash Jr account by submitting the following requirements:

  • Valid ID (such as student ID, national ID or passport)
  • Original copy of your (the minor’s) birth certificate
  • A parent who is fully verified on GCash with the following information:
    • Parent’s complete name
    • Parent’s fully verified GCash number
    • A picture of your parent holding the valid ID used to verify your GCash Jr account

Minors who are foreign nationals or citizens may submit either an Alien Certificate of Registration (ACR) or passport.

GCash Jr is a great option for those who have not yet turned 18 years old. Once you’ve turned 18, your GCash account will be upgraded to regular status after accepting the new terms and conditions of GCash.

Final Considerations

As a student, having a GCash account is a big help when it comes to managing your finances especially when receiving allowances and paying tuition fees. The problem is that many students don’t have any other ID aside from their student ID, making it difficult to verify their GCash accounts. Thankfully, there are ways to verify your GCash account using your student ID, although there’s no guarantee of approval.

After following this guide and you still can’t get your GCash account verified using your student ID, then maybe it’s time to apply for a government-issued ID such as a postal ID or the national ID. Both are easier to acquire than other IDs such as PhilHealth, UMID and Pag-IBIG IDs because they don’t require a membership with a government agency.

Do let us know in the comments section if you managed to have your GCash account verified using your school ID. If you have any questions and concerns, just call the GCash hotline 2882 or email support@gcash.com. Good luck!
